The students got prepared for Student-Led conferences tomorrow.
They are excited to show you all of the things they've been workgin on at school! A number of kids finished publishing their stories today! In math, the kids learned some new card games that reinforce addition and subtraction. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow and have a wonderful Spring Break!

We are very excited about our Story Telling night TONIGHT at school! Please make sure you are here by 5:50 PM. Parents and other guests will go down to the gym. Students will go to their classrooms. Happy first day of spring!
Today we had lots of rehearsal time to practice our story-telling for tomorrow's big event. It will start at 6:00 pm and we hope you all can make it! The students also worked on publishing their original stories today. There is a lot of excitement building in the school... See you tomorrow evening! Happy St. Paddy's Day! The kids are working so hard on publishing their stories! A number of families have yet to sign up for a Student-Led conference this coming Thurs. March 23. Tomorrow, of course, is St. Patrick's Day and kids are encouraged to wear GREEN! If you haven't booked a time for a Student -Led conference next Thursday, please do so. Today an invitation went home for the Story Telling evening on Tuesday, March 21. Hope you can make it! Storytelling and story writing continue to be our focus.
The students are publishing their original stories. I am proud of how hard they are working to create their own books. It is exciting to see them applying their knowledge of reading and writing! In the afternoon, everyone got into their story telling groups in preparation for next Tues. March 21. We hope you will be able to attend! It was our last Sibbald U. for this round. We hope you will be attending to hear all the wonderful story telling at our school. In math, we did Fancy math with the date number 13! Jeff Stockton worked our class this afternoon and the kids learned about turning up the volume and using their bodies to convey their stories. Thursday, March 16 - Spirit Day (wear your sports jersey) and fun lunch Tuesday, March 21 - Story Night Wednesday, March 22 - last day of classes before Spring Break Thursday, March 23- Student - Led conferences Friday, March 24 - PD day for teachers, NO SCHOOL Today the students did a "common write". This is where they all had the same picture prompt and had to make up a story about the picture.
We are using this to assess what our students have been learning about creating stories. In math, the grade ones solved math problems and the grade twos participated in math stations. Miss Jessica was here today to teach the students more social detective strategies. The students worked on their story writing.
In math, the kids played card games to reinforce number skills. For Social Studies, we viewed a Canada 150 video and talked about Canada's 150th birthday coming up this July 1st. Brrrr... another cold day.
We are wondering when winter will end. Today we worked a lot on retelling our stories for the big storytelling night on March 21st. The students are working on embellishing their stories with had gestures, actions, facial and voice expression to make their story come alive! In Social Studies we began a big unit of study called "This Land". The students will be learning all about 3 different communities in Canada. If you have travelled to different places in Canada, please discuss this with your child.
