Happy Halloween!
Everyone had fun showing off their costumes. We even had a Halloween Parade to see all the other classes in their costumes. We talked about safety for trick-or-treating and we hope everyone has a safe and fun time tonight. If the students bring treats to school, we just ask that they save them for after they eat their lunches. Healthy snacks are encouraged in the morning at school. Thanks! All the grade 1s and 2s went outside as we placed elastic bands around a pumpkin. So far there are 250 put around the pumpkin and it still hasn't burst! We will finish this math activity tomorrow and let you know the results! In the month of November, the students will be doing an inquiry into Owls and Bats. If you have any materials at home (books, posters, stuffies, pictures) we would love to have your child bring it to school to share with the class. Please make sure your child's name is marked on the item. They can start bringing in the materials right away. Thanks so much! The school photos went home today.

Happy Friday! It was another great Sibbald U. day at Andrew Sibbald.
On Monday, students are invited to wear their costumes to school. It will be a regular day of classes but there will be some Halloween activities built into our learning too! In the afternoon, we will begin our dance residency with Sound Kreations and we will have time in the gym with them each day next week. Hope you have some time for home reading on the weekend. Some students are moving up a level in their reading. Have a great weekend! Today we finished the last two letters: Xx and Zz!
In math, we were subitizing numbers and played a dots game where the kids had to subitize or recognize the number of dots. We wrote using describing words in our journals. This afternoon we started creating our rural community as we learn more about how communities are different from each other. We had our first lockdown practice and the students did a great job. The Halloween family dance is tonight! Hi Parents,
Today we learned about the letter Qq and spelled words that have q (and u) in them. In math, the students put all the numbers on the 100 chart carpet . They looked for patterns with the numbers and continued to fill in their own 100 chart. In art the students learned about all the things that you can do with a pencil like scumbling, stippling, hatching and gradation. Ask your child about what he/she learned. Tomorrow is our first fun lunch. These lunches are ordered on-line. Halloween Family Dance tomorrow. Today we printed and spelled words with the tricky letter Yy in them. Y can be a consonant or a vowel!
In math, the students placed number cards on the 100 carpet, attempting to put them in order from 1 to 100! Then they filled in their own 100 chart as high as they could go. In journals, the kids wrote about their Halloween costumes. In social studies the students were introduced to the terms "rural" and "urban". We will be building a rural mural in the next few days as we learn how communities are not all the same. A notice went home today about head lice. It would be a good idea to check your child's scalp. Everyone received a book to keep from TD bank! Please remember the Halloween Dance coming up this Thursday! Today was about the tricky vowel Ee. The students learned about the short e sound like in elephant and the long e sound like in eel. Also, some words have silent e at the end.
The students counted bags of object in math and tried to write the number. They wrote about their weekends in their journals. This afternoon, we had a chance to work on the laptops and tried going to abcya and starfall. These are two great websites that have games. Try them at home! Just a reminder that the Halloween family dance is this Thursday, Oct. 27. Happy Friday!
We had our second Sibbald U. classes! Lots of excitement in the school. We completed our TWAS writing and the students brought home their folders. Looks like nice weather. Have a great weekend. Today we printed the vowel Uu and spelled words with u in them.
In journals, the students got to pick their topics to write about. There were some interesting journal entries! Math was all about representing the numbers 15 (gr 1) and 30 (gr 2). We had our individual and class photos taken. Tomorrow is our second Sibbald U. Students are encouraged to wear their new t-shirts. Today we learned about the letter Vv sound and printed words with v in them.
In math, the grade ones represented the number 16 in many ways. The grade twos used ten frames to figure out how many students we have in our whole school. The answer: 148! In the afternoon, the students wrote about our community mural. Tomorrow is our school photo day! Tomorrow is also our library day. Hello, parents,
It was a busy Monday. The students continue to make higher number in math using the ten frames. They wrote about their weekends. They are trying not to overuse the word "and". The students added to our mural of a community as they furthered their understanding of what places go in a community. Reminder - school photo day is this coming Thursday, Oct. 20. If you haven't returned the photo slip, please do so. Home reading went home today and guided reading groups have started! |
