Today in math the students used the math objects to create non-patterns. This was essential in furthering their complete understanding of what a pattern truly is.
For TWAS they made a name pattern. Please check your child's folder. We had our first partner reading time where each student buddied up with another to read a just right book. Have a great weekend!

Highlights of the day:
"Centers!" "Going to the library and looking at my new book!" "Looking through the rainbow glasses!" "Painting a rainbow - I know the order of the colors." "Making a pattern out of shapes." Today your child brought home his/her Raz Kids log in information. Please take a moment to look at this in addition to our home reading program. Today at school...
Printing the letter Rr and finding words that begin and end with r. Writing in our journals about what animals do in the fall. Participating in math pattern centers. We welcomed our student teacher from MRU, Miss H. She will be with us for the next 10 weeks on Wednesdays. This afternoon we did a very cool art/science activity. Using the leaves brought in by the kids, we mixed colors to match the exact shades of the leaves. The students did an amazing job adding black to make colors darker and white to make the colors lighter. Tomorrow we have LIBRARY. Please ensure that library books have been returned. Home reading - lots of kids brought their books back today and got a new book. Please try to have your child do home reading most nights of the week and return their books so they can choose a new one. Thanks! Hi Parents,
Sorry for the later blog...internet delays at school. Today the students were reading and writing up a storm in grade 1 and 2. The students chose their first home reading books which were sent home today. We hope you enjoy the gift of reading together. Please record each book that is read and when your child brings the book back, he/she can choose a new one to bring home. We started our pattern centres in math as the kids gained a further understanding of how to create, extend and describe patterns. Thank you for all the great leaves the kids brought in. We examined them with magnifying glasses and drew detailed scientific drawings of leaves. In P.E. the kids played a game called Dt. Dodgeball - lots of fun! Today we printed the letter Ff and read our just-right books.
The kids wrote about their weekends in their journals and learned how to make dot patterns in math. This afternoon we went on a fall walk and collected fall nature objects. HOMEWORK - EVERYONE NEEDS TO COLLECT AND BRING IN A SMALL BAG OF LEAVES. We are looking for different sizes, shapes and colors of leaves. PLEASE BRING THIS IN TOMORROW! HOME READING WILL BE STARTING LATER ON THIS WEEK. STAY TUNED... I Hi Parents
The grade 1s and 2s were writing in their journals today about their special objects. A few kids have not shared their objects yet but can bring them in tomorrow. In math the students are learning how to name their patterns with letters. Tomorrow is the BBQ and P-T conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with many of you and having you share some insights about your child at school. If you want to order milk for your child, purple forms were sent home yesterday. LIBRARY DAY TOMORROW! We hope you will visit the Book Fair set up in our Learning Commons when you come for your P-T conference. Today the students enjoyed showing and telling all about their special objects that they brought to school. We ran out of time so a few students will share tomorrow. Then, we plan to use the object to write about.
We learned to be detectives and watch out for common words that pop up in our reading such as the words the, and, to, I. The students printed the letter Ss. In science/art the kids learned about the color wheel and got to paint their own color wheel just using the colors red, blue and yellow. Lots of color mixing this afternoon! Please remember if you haven't signed up for a P-T conference to please go to out school website asap. The kids have 2 notices today: Book Fair and Milk Program. Today we learned how to log on to the laptop computers. Most students experienced success typing their I.D. number and password. The kids were very excited to try this and we are looking forward to using the laptops as a tool in our classroom from time to time.
The students wrote about their weekends in the their journals. TOMORROW EACH STUDENT SHOULD BRING THEIR SPECIAL OBJECT TO SCHOOL. IT COULD BE A TOY, STUFFY, BOOK, PHOTO, MEMENTO, SPORTS AWARD., AS LONG AS IT IS SPECIAL TO YOUR CHILD. WE WILL BE DOING A SHOW AND TELL WITH THE OBJECT AND THEN USING IT TO WRITE A SMALL MEMORY STORY. THANKS FOR HELPING YOUR CHILD REMEMBER THIS ITEM. IF YOU HAVEN'T YET SIGNED UP FOR A PARENT- TEACHER CONFERENCE, PLEASE DO. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS GO TO THE SCHOOL WEBSITE AND GO TO MY CBE ACCOUNT. Thursday evening is already filled up but I have spots open on Friday. If that won't be possible, please send me an email so we can arrange an alternate time. Thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone later on this week. Today we worked on our TWAS (This Week At School). Kids drew pictures and wrote labels (grade 1s) or sentences (grade 2s) about our highlights this week.
Centers, just right reading and printing (grade 1s) rounded out our morning. Next week... On Monday and Tuesday each student is asked to bring in a special object to school. This could be a small toy, a stuffy, a book, a memento from a vacation, an object from nature, an award from a sport, a photo, etc. Students are asked to bring just 1 object and it should be important to your child. We will be using these objects to write our next "Small Moment" stories. Scholastic book orders are due on Mon. Sept. 19 Have a great weekend! It was a great Terry Fox Run today!
So wonderful to see our entire school community out on the field, running for Terry. Thanks to some parents who were able to join us. If you haven't yet sent in your Twonie for Terry, you have until next Friday, Sept. 23. We had our first trip to the Learning Commons to sign out some books. Both grade 1s and 2s may sign out two books at a time. We ask that books be returned by each Thursday so your child can sign out some new ones each week. We continued to work on our "Small Moment" stories this afternoon. We talked about whole body listening today - ask your child! Reminder - book orders are due on Mon. Sept. 19 |
