Thank you so much for all the donations to help stuff the socks for needy people.
There is still time so I you wanted to send in some items, they would be greatly appreciated. We will stuff the socks on Wednesday and Thursday. We also are collecting food bank donations.Thank you for the spirit of giving at this time of year. The concert is fast approaching this Thursday. We hope you will be able to attend for the gift of music and good cheer! I am away tomorrow at a doctor's appointment but can be reached via email. The kids enjoyed the carolling this morning. We are hoping the weather warms up a bit so we can play OUTSIDE! The students were all a buzz about their last Sibbald U. class. Stay tuned in the new year for the second round courses we will be offering!
Thanks to two families who sent in their items to stuff the socks for needy people. We hope more items will be donated next week and that we will have lots of socks to fill up. Thank you for your help with this! Just a reminder that the Winter concert will be this coming Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 pm. We hope to see you there! If your child is going to be absent, please let me know through email but also let the office know at the same time. Thanks for your help. Highlights of the day:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND DONATIONS!! Highlights of the day:
Literacy centers 5 adults helping out in our classroom all at once! Fire writing and celebrating some of the writing Last day with our student teacher, Miss H. Working with Mrs. Bonanno on bat research! Learning about symmetry in math LIBRARY TOMORROW! STILL COLD OUTSIDE SO STAYING INDOORS! Today the students got to personalize their Fire Writing journals. Then they wrote like crazy for 15 solid minutes! Tomorrow we will do some celebrating. We also read a cool book about how authors search for their ideas.
We were cooped up indoors all day. But we had extra phys-ed in the morning to burn off excess energy! In math the students explored shapes through tangram puzzles and the grade twos were solving basic facts of addition. This afternoon all students were researching about bats using the laptops. We went to the website called KidZone bats and found amazing facts, photos and videos about these strange and wonderful creatures! Thank you for sending your child dressed for the cold weather today. It was a "blue" day which is -20 or colder, including the wind chill. We will stay inside if it's too cold but there could be times when we go out, just for a few minutes, so please continue to ensure your child has all his/her cold weather clothing.
Today we began some new things: In math, we have started learning about shapes. The kids used tangram shapes to make pictures. The grade 2s also began finding strategies to learn the basic facts of + and - to 18. We started something called "Fire Writing". Fire writing is when kids choose their own topic and write like crazy for 15 minutes. The idea is to write, write, write, with no distractions. What they write is for themselves and is kept private. The teacher won't be looking at it or grading it so it frees them to write without limits. Then we will have volunteers share (only if they want) and we will celebrate their unique writing and "crack open" sentences, which means to brainstorm juicy words to help the author progress in his/her writing. The kids were super excited about this new form of writing today! This afternoon - another form of writing - research writing. The students are asking questions about bats and trying to locate answers. The students finished their owl sculptures today by adding tissue paper to the wings. A big thankyou to our wonderful artist in residence for her expertize and love for art!
We wrote about owls and bats for TWAS. Just a reminder there will be no school tomorrow as the teachers are having a PD day. Stay worm in the wintery weather. Brrrrrrr. |
