Wow, the last day of February! Time is flying by...
Today, the students worked on their story writing and story telling. In math the grade ones continued to learn about subtraction and the grade twos began some math centers to reinforce their learning around place value. This afternoon, we found out about animal tracks and learned about how many animals stay active in the winter. The students also sketched animal tracks in their visual journals. Most of the field trip forms have been returned, thank you.We are still requiring one more parent volunteer for the trip next Tuesday. Tomorrow is Sibbald U.! Students are encouraged to wear their school t-shirts.

If you did not get a chance yet, we will have one more trip to the zoo. TBA Happy Valentines Day!
We celebrated friendship by sharing our Valentines and by writing about our friends. In math, the grade ones worked on subtracting and the grade twos learned about regrouping using tens and ones when subtracting. We all did fancy math with the number 14! We had Jeff Stockton this afternoon and we enjoyed learning about how our imaginations are incredible and how they help us to tell stories! Tomorrow is the 100th day of school. If your child has not yet brought in his/her collection of 100 items, please do so tomorrow. The collections so far have been awesome! Two notices went home today. No school Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Howden will be away all next week. Today was a busy Monday!

Sibbald U.! Fancy Math with the number 8 Finishing our penguin comparison booklets (sent home today) Looking forward to our Skating Field Trip tomorrow! For the field trip, students will need to carry in their backpacks: skates helmet snow pants and mitts (to be worn) snack Just a reminder as per the parent email that went home, we will be also skating on Monday, Feb. 13 to make up for the missed time yesterday. If anyone can volunteer on that day, please let me know asap. Thanks! Today we examined the sounds "ee" and "ow" like in the word snow.
The students worked in small groups to tell their stories and then they wrote some more of their story. Miss Jessica worked with the kids on Social Detectives as they learned about full body listening. In math, we started "Fancy Math" and we used the number 7. We found 25 different ways to make the number 7 like 10-3=7, 3+4=7, 1+1+1+1+1+1+1=7, (100-100)+ 7=7. Just a reminder that tomorrow is Sibbald U. and kids are invited to wear their Sibbald t-shirts! Thursday we will be going skating! Today we found out about Groundhog Day. Unfortunately the groundhog is predicting 6 weeks more winter.
The kids learned about 4 ways to begin a story: describing the setting or a character, begin with an action, begin with a sound word or begin with your character talking. Then the kids got into pairs and used their setting and character to tell the start of their stories. Then they wrote it down. We had some great story beginnings. The highlight of the day was our ice cube experiment. The students loved creating their devices to keep the ice cube from melting and everyone was successful compared to the control ice cube that wasn't insulated. A reminder there is NO SCHOOL TOMORROW - PD Day Pink field trip forms are due on Monday. Please make sure you have skates and a helmet for Tuesday, our first skating day. Book orders are also due on Monday. |
