Today we practiced an emergency evacuation and walked to the Lake Bonavista community center as a school.
We read a book about peace and wrote about it in our journals. The students started making a book about different kinds of owls. In math the kids participated in math stations that focus on number concepts such as counting, representing numbers, the 100 chart and more and less. Have a great evening! Today was a busy Monday.
The students wrote about their weekends in their journals. They did a math problem that had many solutions: There are 10 animals. Some are owls. Some are bats. What are all the possibilities? I am encouraging the students to find all the solutions to these kinds of problems. Ms Oswald read a story to our class about social skills. The kids loved it! In the afternoon, some students shared their owl artifacts and we read a book about owls. Just a reminder that tomorrow is the due date for ordering Scholastic books. Happy Friday!
It was a busy, action-packed day today. The students enjoyed their 4th Sibbald U. and shared all the things they were up to in their courses. Thanks to the families who were able to watch us dance today as we concluded our dance residency with Sound Kreations. It was a great week of dancing. Grade 1 students should be practicing their sight word lists and letting me know when they're ready for the next list. It looks like it will be a beautiful weekend. Enjoy! We had an exciting day of learning!
The students had to solve a math problem about chickens and putting them into 2 pens and finding all the ways. For journals the kids wrote about questions that they have about owls. There were some good ones such as: How do owls fly? How are owls born? What do owls eat? Do they grow back new feathers? The students are loving our investigation of owls! Tomorrow we have our last class for Dance Kreations at 10:30. Parents are welcome to come and see what we've been learning about! Tomorrow is also Sibbald U. Kids are encouraged to wear their Sibbald t-shirts. Please round up any overdue library books. Students received their class photos today. Today we did a making words activity and built lots of words.
We learned about owl body parts and the names of some different kinds of owls. Then each student got to create their own owl! They look awesome! The grade one students have brought home a list of sight words to practice. Please refer to the note in their home reading bag or take home bag. In math the students tried solving a math problem. We kept learning our dances this afternoon for Dance Kreations! We had our second time to dance with Dance Kreations today. Our dances are from the Caribbean and from Madagascar! Cool!
We did a new activity in Language Arts today called making words. In math, the grade 1s represented another number in many ways while the grade 2s colored counting patterns on their 100 charts. We began our inquiry into owls and bats! Kids wrote on stickies what they already know about these amazing animals. Just a reminder, if you have any materials at home about owls or bats, please send them in! The November scholastic book orders were sent home today and are due next Tues., Nov. 8. |
