It was a cold day today. Brrr! Let's hope tomorrow is warmer!
Today... Students learned more about butterfly metamorphosis and created a detailed representation of the 4 stages In math, the students used multilink cubes to measure their various body parts This afternoon the kids had another session to work on their books in Book Creator We also tested the remaining boats to see if they could float, sail and carry a load of 10 blocks. Most bloats were successful and we examined what worked and why Tomorrow... We are looking forward to SOGO! Students should DRESS IN LAYERS AND NOTE WEATHER CONDITIONS!!! Bring a water bottle and comfortable runners We will leave the school promptly at 9:40 and return in time for the regular lunch at 11:20 Thanks to our volunteers who will be joining us! Lots of learning in room 12!

Pretty exciting at school today!
Highlights from today include:
Solving some money math problems Writing in our journals about our growing caterpillars and some fun facts about them! Learning about feedback from Mr. Bonanno as the students work on their Book Creator books In science sketching and labeling the parts of a boat as we prepare to design, create and build our own boats! In our classroom we have a collection jar for Shave Your Lid. We would appreciate any kind donations and we are so excited about our Shave Your Lid event coming up on Thursday, May 11 at 9:30 in the gym. All parents are welcome to attend! May the 4th be with you! (Sorry, couldn't resist the Star Wars reference!)
It was a super exciting day: Our Sibbald Store was awesome! The kids shopped 'til they dropped and used their money skills to purchase items. Many thank you to our 3 parent volunteers who set up the store, cafe and acted as cashiers. Ms Manser even dropped by and helped out at the bank. We met the caterpillars that we will raise this month and who will transform into Painted Lady butterflies! It was also Arbor Day today and the grade 1s took home their baby fir trees to plant and care for at home. Regarding out upcoming field trip to the zoo on June 1st, please let me know if you have zoo passes. Thanks! Today was exciting at Andrew Sibbald...
We started with a math problem and figured out different ways to make 18, 25 or 100 cents. Each student picked the number to work on at their level. The students wrote in their fire writing journals about a topic of their choice. The concert was the highlight of our day! So great to listen to the wonderful music presented by both choirs. In the afternoon, the students worked on their Book Creator books which are coming along. TOMORROW IS OUR SIBBALD STORE! The kids have learned so much about money and counting and problem solving skills in math and now we will put it to use! Today was a busy day!
We wrote about the parts of plants and what they do to help a plant grow. In math, the kids sorted all the store items in preparation for our Sibbald Store on Thursday. In the afternoon, the students tried to make two "floaters" - one out of a piece of tin foil and the other using a piece of plasticine. One of the tin foil floaters could hold 80 small wooden blocks before sinking! TOMORROW... OUR SCHOOL CHOIR WILL BE PERFORMING ALONG WITH THE AUBURN BAY CHOIR! PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD WEAR A HAT TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS. Wow, May!
It is an exciting and busy week! Today... We learned and wrote about plants. Many of the seeds we planted last week have sprouted! In math, we did a practice store in preparation for our real store this coming Thurs., May 4! The students learned a bit about fishing boats in Nova Scotia which led us into an investigation about floating and sinking. They collected and sorted objects that would float and sink and then we tested them out! Just a reminder that our choir will be performing on Wednesday this week along with the choir from Auburn Bay School at 10:30 in the gym! Wednesday is also Wear a Hat to show support of mental health. |
